Obituary of roy  travis hurst

Roy Travis Hurst, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022. A memorial service will be held at the Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church in Masseyville, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Travis was born in Marysville, California, on February 14, 1938. He was raised in Henderson, Tennessee, by his parents Arnold & Gladys Hurst. After completing electronics school in Atlanta, Georgia, Travis landed a job with Vitro Services and would go on to spend the next 47 years as a government contractor until retiring from Indyne in 2009. He met and married his beloved wife, Janet Jones Hurst in April of 1963. The couple celebrated over 50 wonderful years together and made Fort Walton Beach, Florida their home, during which time they had three sons, Andy, Cary & Joey. Travis was heavily involved with the community and his church. In addition, to his government contractor career, Travis became the Chief of Mary Esther Volunteer Fire Department in the early 70's and spent several years officiating high school football games throughout Northwest Florida. He spent many years coaching his sons in little league baseball, during which time he had the honor of being head coach for the Mary Esther Allstars (1979 District Champions), and spent several years coaching youth bowling. Travis will always be warmly remembered, above all else, as being the BEST DAD! Travis is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold & Gladys Hurst Holmes; step-father, Elvie Holmes; wife, Janet Jones Hurst; son, Joseph Hurst; brother, Leon Holmes. He is survived by his sons, Andy Hurst (husband, William Beckworth), Cary Hurst (wife, Sandy); brother, Harold Newman Hurst (wife, Carlin); sister, Shirley Burkeens; and brother in law, David Jones (wife, Beth). He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Alzheimer's Association.
