Obituary of helen ailene spencer

Helen Ailene Spencer passed away on February 14, 2022 at her home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida from complications of dementia. Helen was born in Red Bluff, Tehama, California on May 14, 1937 to the late Harvey Wesley Robert "Bob" Drumm and Lorene Dallace Shults. She married Bobby Eugene Spencer, Sr. on February 16,1956 in Virginia City, Storey County, Nevada. Being part of the Air Force, the Spencer's lived in Nevada, South Carolina, Spain, Colorado and California. In September 1971, Bob and Helen bought their forever home in Fort Walton Beach. Mrs. Spencer was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Helen's passions were taking pictures, shopping and reading. She has an enormous collection of detailed photo albums. Mrs. Spencer stayed active with Billy Bowlegs for decades as their Executive Secretary and with her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. Helen was best known for her 50 years of employment with the City of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. In 1968, she was hired as secretary to the Chief of Police and within a decade, Mrs. Spencer became City Clerk. In addition to her parents, Helen is predeceased by her brother, Gary Harvey Drumm; two half-brothers, David Pete Frase and Dean Larry Frase; and niece, Anna Lonnberg. Mrs. Spencer is survived by her half-sister, Gail Lee Frase Lonnberge of Redding, California and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by two children, Barbie Lynn Palkowski and Bobby Eugene Spencer, Jr. Mrs. Spencer's grandchildren, David Eugene Palkowski, Melissa Palkowski Ball, Kyle Allen Spencer and kayla Spencer Schweinfurth also survive her, along with several great-grandchildren. Helen's family would especially like to express their appreciation to the hospice care staff at Emerald Coast of Fort Walton Beach for their outstanding attention and compassion they gave to Mr. and Mrs. Spencer. A time of visitation will be held at 1 to 2 on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Family-Funeral & Cremation, 101 Mary Esther Blvd., Mary Esther, FL 32569. Where Funeral services will be held at 2pm, with Rev. Stan Puryear of Emerald Coast Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, FL at the convenience of the family.
