Obituary of CARROLL ARNNO HAUPT
Carroll Arnno Haupt, 90, of Pensacola, FL, and Baltimore, MD passed away on August 21, 2021 in Pensacola, FL.
Carroll was born in Baltimore, MD on November 4, 1930. He married Judith Stewart in 1961 until her death in 1989. He then married Louise Pabst in 1997 until her death in 2011.
Carroll served in the US Navy on the USS Bennington (CVA 20) during the Korean War. While on the ship, they went through a North Atlantic hurricane which he was fond of telling his story. Carroll had a very steady and loyal career with Western Electric, Bell System and AT&T where he retired from in 1992. He was recently awarded Honorary Deputy by Sheriff Chip Simmons of Escambia County, Florida.
Sheriff Simmons, in his address, highlighted Carroll’s life as having “dedicated service to the community and country. As a member of the United States Navy, you served your country with distinction. Your later involvement with the USS Bennington Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and as an avid supporter of First Responders and our Armed Forces are indicative of your love and respect for your fellow man. You and your contemporaries are what make the United States the greatest country in the world. Therefore, as Sheriff of Escambia County, it is my honor to present you with an honorary appointment as a member of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Please know that this is but a small token of my respect and admiration for you.”
Carroll was also a member of Pensacola Country Club where he enjoyed dining and the great Seafood Gumbo.
Carroll touched hundreds of lives during his lifetime. For three decades he cooked and served Thanksgiving Dinner by himself every year for 15-25 people up until he was 90. He was the touchstone of the whole family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnno Haupt and Helma (Schmidt) Haupt and by sisters, Elaine Schlicht, Anna Marion Haupt, and Naomi Garrison.
Carroll is survived by daughter, Pamela Levitan (husband Daniel), grandson, Alexander May (wife, Parker); three beautiful granddaughters, Zoey, Grace, & Peyton and brother, Donald Haupt (wife Doris), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements and the viewing are scheduled for Friday August 27, 2021, at Evans Funeral Chapel, 3 Newport Dr, Forest Hill, MD 21050 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The burial will take place on Saturday August 28, 2021, meeting at the Evans Funeral Chapel departing at 10:00am and traveling to Highview Gardens, 3433 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD. All are welcome. We would like to thank Covenant Hospice and their wonderful staff for the care and support that they gave during this time.
