Robert Selby Jones, 90, of Panama City, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021. He had just started his 90th year ( age 89 years and 10 days ). Robert was born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. on June 23, 1932 to W. Selby Jones and Hester Joy Jones (nee Wright). Robert served in the United States Air Force from June 28, 1950 to September 9, 1953. Robert graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University in the spring of 1957. He attained scholastic excellence and earned membership in three national honor societies. Robert's engineering career included employment with Sylvania, General Electric and RCA. Later in life he shifted career from engineering of electronics to sales of electronics. He worked for Tektronix and then Leasametric where he climbed the ranks to upper management. In retirement, Robert volunteered at the Red Cross and tutored math at a local school. Robert was known for his dry sense of humor and way too many Dad jokes, his compassion and kindness, his piercing intelligence, his fairness and calmness, and his charm. Robert was a lover of history, especially the Civil War and WWII and researching his family roots. He loved building model airplanes and ships that he displayed around his home. He had a lifelong love of model railroads and once had a entire bedroom devoted to the railroad town and surrounding hills, tunnels, and water features he built. Robert was also a talented woodworker and throughout his life made many pieces of furniture. Robert was married and divorced twice. He had three children with his first wife; Eleanor Martha Jones (nee Wisdo) , his second wife was to Barbara Sue Sullivan. Robert is survived by three children, Deborah Hoard, Robert Selby, and Cynthia Gildea ; and two grandchildren, Tabitha Marblestone and Katrina Waldschmidt.
