Obituary of Ronald James Gyorkos

Ronald James Gyorkos "GYRO" of Pensacola passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2022, surrounded by his family. Ron was born in Compton, CA. on January 12, 1951. Ron's family moved to Michigan when he was just four years old. Ron met his loving wife, Sandy, in 1967 while attending JFK High School in Taylor, Michigan and the two married in 1970. After graduating High School, Ron entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969 and dedicated himself to Aviation, from Instructor Training to Flight Engineer on the C-130 aircraft. In 1987, he was prestigiously selected by the Marine Corps. to be a Flight Engineer with the United States Blue Angels. Ron retired in 1992 after 23 proud years of service to the Marine Corps. He then went on to fly as a 747-767 Pilot for Southern Air Transport and Air Transport International traveling all over the world until retiring in 2011. Throughout his military career, the family moved several times eventually settling in Pensacola, FL in 1987. Ron is survived by his wife Sandy Gyorkos. Sons Ronald Gyorkos II and his wife Dawn and Jeffrey Gyorkos and his wife Heather. His Grandchildren include James Humphreys, Cassandra Gyorkos, Haley Gyorkos, Spencer Gyorkos, Skylar Gyorkos, Cole Gyorkos, Kaitlyn Gyorkos, Gavin Gyorkos, Chelsie Tittle and Husband Trey, Dylan Generes, and Great-Granddaughters Haylee Humphreys and Ava Tittle, along with many cherished nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Ron also had a passion to train student pilots; welcoming any opportunity to give back to aviation what he was grateful to have learned. Ron's hobbies included boating and riding his Harley. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Marine Corps League. His most favorite vacations were with all his Brother & Sister In Laws.
