Obituary of bernadean virginia york

Bernadean Virginia York (nee Snider), 89, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2022. Bernadean was born in Campbell, Missouri, on January 11, 1933, to Rube and Vina Snider (nee Lee). Her ancestors have lived in Dunklin County, Missouri, since before the Civil War. In 1951, she met Joe York, who worked at the Buick factory; she worked at a nearby cafe. In 1953, Joe and Bernadean welcomed a daughter, Betty Ann, named after Joe's sisters: Betty Lee and Carmen Ann. Bernadean wanted to keep the name simple because she didn't believe in nicknames. Bernadean loved dogs, especially Bichon Frises, who she loved indulging with steakburgers and Dr. Pepper. Bernadean was a lifelong Republican who knew how to pick cotton and loved assembly line work. In her later years, she enjoyed doing word searches and reading Debbie Macomber. If you came to her house for dinner, the only way you'd be served meat was well done. Her specialties, beloved by her daughter and granddaughter especially, were fried peach pies and chocolate rolls. Every Thanksgiving, she made homemade cornbread dressing; there was always plenty to take home. For Bernadean, there was no beverage she loved more than an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Joe and Bernadean enjoyed working for themselves, selling jewelry, lamps, and lampshades; after becoming widowed, Bernadean sold hematite jewelry at outdoor flea markets. Bernadean was a kind person who had compassion for those less fortunate and never begrudged those who had more than she did. Bernadean was preceded in death by her husband, Joe York, and daughter, Betty. She is survived by her son-in-law, Phil Booker; her grandchildren, Sarah Lea Richards (nee Booker) and Kelly Morgan Booker; her grandson-in-law, Brian Lee Richards; and her great-granddaughters, Hannah Beth Richards and Amelia Skye Richards.
