Obituary of bettye courington jankowski

Bettye Courington Jankowski of Pensacola, Florida, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama, passed from her journey on earth on August 2, 2022. Bettye was born November 12, 1932 in Cordova, Alabama to Claude and Velma Courington. Upon graduation from high school, Bettye, joined the U.S Navy, with her sister Meta. While serving her country, she met the love of her life Frankie E. Jankowski, HMC, USN Ret. (deceased) and they raised six children, Janey Wiles, Susann (Lloyd) Bigford, Gerard Jankowski (Robert, deceased), Judy (David) Strout, Chuck (Debbie) Jankowski, John Jankowski (deceased). She was a proud Granny of five and Great-Gran of four. Bettye is survived by her brother Jim and is predeceased by her parents Claude and Velma, husband Frankie, son John and seven siblings: Gerald, Meta, Bill, Ken, Dodie, Tim and Butch. Bettye and all eight of her siblings served in the Navy. Fun fact: Bettye's birth certificate was handwritten, and Nov 12 looked a lot like Mar 17 and so it was recorded as Mar 17 in all of her official Navy records. Instead of correcting the error, Bettye celebrated 2 birthdays every year and accepted (expected) gifts for both birthdays. Mom was a lifelong member of Eastern Star, Waves National, American Legion and the Avon President's Club. She was a generous Avon Lady for over 30 years in Flint, Michigan and Birmingham, Alabama. Most recently, Bettye has been an esteemed supporter of the H.E.R. Foundation of Northwest Florida (Honor Empower Rebuild) which provides housing, counseling, and resource assistance for female veterans. She was a founding member of the “Faith House” the homeless shelter for single female veterans in Pensacola. In lieu of flowers her family asks that you donate to the H.E.R. Foundation of Northwest Florida at honorher.org Graveside service will be at Crestview Memorial Gardens, Adamsville Alabama on 19 August 2022 at 10:00 am.
