Obituary of Michael Howard Sweeney

Mike Sweeney 1958-2022 Michael Howard Sweeney, 63, of Gulf Breeze Florida, passed away on May 18, 2022 after a long battle with NET Cancer. Mike was born on December 19, 1958 to Norma and Joseph Sweeney in Sharon PA and moved with his family to Gulf Breeze in 1968. After many adventurous years exploring the country, Mike returned to Gulf Breeze and went to work for Circle K while he studied Radiology at PJC. He worked for many years as a CT Technician at various medical facilities including The Medical Center Clinic, Baptist Health Care and Select Specialty Hospital. After retiring from the medical field Mike worked as a manager at City Grocery in Pensacola until they moved from 12th Avenue, and he finally found a home at the EXXON Station in Gulf Breeze where many found him cheering on his beloved Atlanta Braves most evenings during his shifts. In January 2019 Mike was diagnosed with Neuro Endocrine Cancer with a large tumor in his liver that was inoperable due to the size and location. Mike fought his cancer with everything he had, even traveling to Emory in Atlanta and Shand’s in Gainesville to try new treatment options as they became available. Mike was proceeded in death by his mother, Norma Sweeney; Father, Howard Sweeney and Sister, Gayle Anne Sweeney. He is survived by his brother, Patrick Sweeney; Sister, Mary Sever, Ex-Wife Robbin Sweeney and Daughter Katherine Sweeney. An Informal Celebration of Life for Mike (and his mother who passed away this past October) will be held on Pensacola Beach on the sand behind the Dune with the Cross June 5, 2022 at 10 am followed by a reception at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center from 12-2 where people can drop by to pay their respects to the family.
