Obituary of Miriam Elizabeth Storey

Miriam Winkle Storey, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 21, 2022, at the age of 84, at her home in Cantonment, FL. Miriam worked in Civil Service for over twenty-five years and retired from NAS on March 31, 1995. She was very active in her church. In her earlier years she was active in camping groups and square dance clubs. She was the Queen Mother for the Local Chapter of The Red Hatted Ladies of Tranquility. Miriam and her late husband (of almost 66 years) Jim served for about eight years as secretary and president on the USS Gherardi ASS planning the reunions, etc. She was greatly loved and known by her family as Mom and GiGi. Her gift was hospitality, and she spent her life serving others. Miriam is survived by her two children, Gregory Storey (Patricia), Debra Black (Darrell); five grandchildren, Christopher Storey, Daniel Storey (Catherin), Carey Black Jones (Casey), Kathryn Storey Carnahan (Raymond), Nickolas Black (Christina), Melissa Storey; ten great-grandchildren, Samantha Storey, Landon Carnahan, Oliver Carnahan, Emrys Carnahan, Emma Storey, Viva Carnahan, Pepper Carnahan, Kayla Jones, Dowlin Black, and Katelyn Jones. Services will be held Friday, March 4th at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church where Miriam was a member. Visitation is at 10:00 A.M. and the service will be at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pastor Riley Richardson and Rev. Darrell Black will be officiating. The pallbearers are Nick Black, Casey Jones, Steve Kling, Victor Quiles, Mark Rhedin, and Joe Mehan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the MGUMC Altar Fund in honor of Miriam. We know Miriam would like to send her thanks to her loving and supportive family, her three church families (Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church, Farm Hill Baptist Church, and Century First Baptist Church), and her nurses.
