Obituary of mary virginia brunson

Mary W. Brunson of Pensacola died on October 6, 2021 after a stroke. She was 97 years old. A native of Marion, LA, Mary was born on May 2, 1924 to Lynn P. and Frances DeShazo Wheelis—one of ten children. After graduation from Marion High School in 1941, she moved to Pensacola to be near family. She found employment at the S.H. Kress & Co, working her way up from clerk to bookkeeper. In 1951, she married H. Earl Brunson in Pascagoula, and they made their home in Pensacola; they had no children. She continued working in bookkeeping with small businesses until she found career employment at the Escambia County School District in 1968 in the revenue department, advancing to senior accounting clerk until her retirement in 1992. She was highly regarded for her work, dependability, and cheerful disposition. After her husband’s death in 1987, she met Charlie Varazo—her Greek-American companion whom she adored. Mary volunteered in many functions at the Greek orthodox church, where the congregation “adopted” her. She leaves behind one sister, Sue Crow (Jimmy Binford) of Marion, LA and many cousins, nieces and nephews, whom she cherished. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 20, 2021, 12:30 pm at Pine Glades Park near the home where she resided for 55 years and neighborhood and its residents she loved.
