Obituary of June Arlene Gunther

June Arlene Gunther, 88, of Pensacola, St. Augustine, Florida and Rapid City, South Dakota passed away on August 4, 2021. She was born on June 3, 1933 in Dixon, South Dakota to parents, Bertha A. L. Newsom (Kolbe) and Frederick R. Newsom. She attended elementary school in Dallas, South Dakota, and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1951. June was an Air Force spouse and traveled to many locations including Hawaii. She was employed in various places to help ends meet, as well as raising a family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marcella Knispel and Kay Van-Diviner; husband, Ralph E. Gunther and her first son, Michael Edward. June is survived by her son, John (Mick), his bride, Kimberly (Oberembt); her grandson, Timothy, his beloved, Rachel Calfin; granddaughter, Lara (Dr. Ryan) Rickles; her great-granddaughters, Cate Gunther and Sloane Rickles; her great-grandson, Sawyer Rickles and her sister, Geneva Harris and brother-in-law, Boyd Harris. June was a very outgoing person and never met a stranger. She loved playing board games and “Mexican Train.” She was well loved by her nieces, nephews, and cousins (Knispel’s, Harrises, Gunther’s, Redmond’s, Winks, and Kruse’s). She attended Corpus Christie Catholic Church in St. Augustine, Florida, for over 25 years. She was active in the Guild and had a large group of great friends. For the last two years she resided at The Veranda in Pensacola, Florida. She received the best loving care from the third-floor staff anyone could ever receive. Our family cannot thank them enough. Also, many thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice and especially her nurse, Cheryl. A Memorial Service is being planned.
