Obituary of james william storey

James William Storey, YNC, USN, RET, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the age of 88, with his son Greg by his side. Jim served for twenty-three years in the US Navy and twenty years in the Civil Service. The duty stations he served were on USS Gherardi DD-637 DMS-30 Charleston, S.C., UN Minecraft Base Staff, Charleston, S.C. USS Pilot AM-104 Green Cove Springs, Florida, US Sornar School staff, Key West Florida, US Naval War College staff, Newport R.I., USS DER 400, Newport, R.I. Navy Recruiting duty Pittsburgh. PA, Guam, M. I. Korea and Vietnam, Retired VT-10 Naval Air Station, Pensacola 1974. Latter in years Jim and his wife Miriam served for about eight years as president and secretary on the USS Gherardi ASS planning the reunions, etc. He was a disabled veteran. Jim is survived by his wife, Miriam Winkle Storey (just shy one month of 66 years); his two children, Gregory Storey (Patricia), Debra Black (Darrell); five grandchildren, Christopher Storey, Daniel Storey (Catherin), Carey Black Jones (Casey), Kathryn Storey Carnahan (Raymond), Nickolas Black (Christina), Melissa Storey; ten great-grandchildren, Samantha Storey, Landon Carnahan, Oliver Carnahan, Emrys Carnahan, Emma Storey, Viva Carnahan, Pepper Carnahan, Kayla Jones, Dowlin Black, and Katelyn Jones. Services will be held Friday, March 12th at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church where Jim was a member. Visitation is 11:00 A.M. and the funeral is at Noon. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery. Masks are required at the church and Barrancas. Pastor Riley Richardson will be officiating. The pallbearers are Daniel Storey, Casey Jones, Steve Kling, Don Brook, Jerry Barbee, and Cary Dobbins. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MGUMC.
