Obituary of owen dallas sharp,  jr.

Owen D. Sharp, Jr., 84, died January 3, 2021. He was born in Annapolis, Maryland to Owen and Liberty Brown Sharp. His father served in the U.S. Navy and prior to World War II the family lived in Virginia and Florida and in Pennsylvania and Maryland after the war ended. Owen attended Annapolis High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. After completing boot camp and radio operator school in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was stationed in Taiwan, Formosa. Upon his return to the U.S. in November 1956, he and his childhood sweetheart, Janet Klakring, were married. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Owen pursued a career in sales and marketing which continued for the remainder of his working life. He was employed by numerous national corporations and the family was able to enjoy living and exploring eight different states. In 1987, Owen and Janet relocated to Pensacola Florida. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was active organizing and serving the missions of the church, including numerous mission trips to Henderson Settlement, in Frakes, KY, and local missions such as Bright Bridges and House of Liberty’s programs for the homeless. Owen was predeceased by his parents and his younger sister, Janet Lee. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Janet, and their three children, Kathryn Tomlinson (Tom), of Elgin, Illinois, Kenneth Sharp, (Gina) of Pace, Florida and Kristine Sharp (Charlene) of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren, Erik Tomlinson (Eunice), Lisa Tomlinson Drobny (Jon), Tyler Pappas, Rachel Sharp Bollone (Daniel) and one great-grandson, Jackson Pappas. Owen was a wonderful husband, father and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
