Obituary of marilyn cooke walker

Marilyn Kay Cooke Walker, 84, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020; her destination was to the mansion prepared for her in God’s promised kingdom, and she now enjoys a reunion with the relatives and friends who predeceased her. She will be sorely missed by us; we mourn her loss, and we anxiously await the day when we will be reunited with her in Heaven. Marilyn was born at her home on August 31, 1936 in Chicago, IL. Her parents were Robert Edward and Maxine Pearl Williams Cooke. Her brother, Robert Edward Cooke JR USAF served with the Air Force during World War II, and her father, an engineer, worked on the Manhattan Project. Her parents and her brother preceded her in death. Marilyn graduated from Grinnell College, in Grinnell, Iowa, with a BA in June of 1958. She taught kindergarten, first, and second grade classes for several years. Marilyn married Jon William Walker on June 12, 1959, in Berwyn, Illinois. She later attended the University of West Florida, Pensacola (BSW) and Troy State University (MSC) in the mid 1970’s. Marilyn and Jon were married for over 61 years. She and her family traveled and lived in California, Texas, Maine, Florida, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Panama for more than 27 years as a Navy family. She and her family visited across Western Europe, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Hawaii during that time. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jon William Walker; daughter, Diane Walker Renaud (David),; son, Jon William Walker II; grandsons, Christian and Nathan Velasco; granddaughters, Holly Renaud Herrera (Luis) and Amy Renaud Scalf (Sean), and her first great-grandson, Oliver David Herrera. A cheerful and dynamic lady, Marilyn enjoyed life as a teacher, social worker, mother and wife alongside her husband, Jon. She loved her many pets: dogs, cats, and countless strays or injured animals which she nursed back to health and released. Marilyn worked as a Navy Relief Counselor for over 20 years, volunteered in Community Activities and local and National Charity drives. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, and she made a special effort to ensure that visits with her babies were frequent and lengthy. Marilyn was energetic and active in church activities, holding offices as treasurer, chairperson, or worker bee for any job that was needed. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, genealogy, quilting, sewing, reading and traveling. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to each person’s choice of charities. The family of Marilyn wish to thank all of the friends, families, church family, and neighbors who helped to support us.
