Adolf Josef Wenning, 91, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at West Florida Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1929 in Munster, Germany, the only child of Melchior and Franziska Ruesthaus Wenning. Before coming to the USA, Adolf was trained to be a professional baker; he loved horses and attended a riding academy before working on a farm for several years. Upon arriving in the USA, Adolf went to work for Bamby Baking Company in Bridgeport, CT, and was employed there until 1985. He became a US Citizen five years after coming to the States. It was in Bridgeport that he married his first wife, Alice, who had immigrated from Germany a year earlier. After Alice’s death in 1985, Adolf moved to Gulf Breeze, FL and worked in a local small bakery until retiring in 1994. He then started working as a full-time volunteer for Habitat for Humanity that lasted 14 years. He married Thelma Keeling in 1988. Together they enjoyed traveling in all states of the USA and several European trips. Ballroom dancing was their favorite entertainment belonging to several dance clubs. They enjoyed being involved with the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, which they have attended regularly. Adolf also had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed growing things as a hobby. Adolf is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Richard J. Wenning of CT; step-daughter, Janice (David) Nielsen of WI; Alice’s sister, Annemie (Kurt) Will and cousins all from Germany.
