Obituary of dale mylum baber

Dale Mylum Baber, age 79, of Cantonment, Florida passed away June 5, 2020 at Solaris Healthcare. He was born November 1940 in Hopewell, Virginia to Ralph and Inez Baber. He graduated from Hopewell High School in 1959 and then went on to earn a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University. Dale married Annette King in 1965 and he was a chemical engineer with Virginia Chemicals/Hoechst Celanese for his entire career. After working in Portsmouth, Virginia for 17 years, he was promoted and transferred to Chester S.C. in 1979 and then to Mobile, AL in 1986. He was a great asset to the company and was well liked by his coworkers. After his retirement in 1999, he worked for Underwriters Laboratories as an independent auditor. Dale enjoyed sports and was a great baseball player in high school.He especially loved watching football and playing golf. He left a lasting legacy by sharing his vast wisdom and love with his children and grandchildren. He will be truly missed by his family. He is survived by the mother of his children, Annette Witherington; children, Julie (Robert) Grantham of Greenville, AL, Glenn (Maria Mercedes) Baber of Katy, TX and Laurie Smith of Cantonment, FL; grandchildren, Wright Baber, Jake Gillem, Valerie Smith, Ensley Baber and Garren Smith; brother, Michael Baber and sister, Carolyn (George) Doten. Due to the current pandemic, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gillem/Beeland Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church, 112 Adams Street, Greenville, AL 36037. Special thanks to those who cared for Dale in his final days, especially Wendy Castagna, Tina McCarty, and Tammy Moore.
