Obituary of cecil william hardin

Cecil William Hardin, born into the family of Charlie and Ida Money Hardin on November 5, 1924, passed from this life on April 17, 2020. Cecil and Christine Roberts were married on August 23, 1947. Together, they raised three sons; Emery, Elton and Kerry. Their marriage lasted for 72 years and 8 months. They added to their loving family four grandsons, four granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and six great granddaughters. When he wasn’t working in his garden, he was spending quality time with his loved ones. He was known for his good sense of humor and hard work ethic. He loved the gospel and especially loved the Lord. He learned the truth of God, and salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. He was a walking book of history as he lived through the Great Depression, 15 Presidents, and the implementation of social security benefits and fought for the USA in World War II from September 30, 1943 to January 24, 1946. He arrived at Omaha Beach in Normandy France the day before D-Day. He fought in battles and campaigns in Normandy Northern France Rhineland. He served in England, France, and Belgium with the 519th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion as a member of the gun crew on a 90-MM gun, used for the protection of airports, supply dumps, and harbors from enemy aircraft. He arrived at Omaha Beach in Normandy France the day before D-Day. Some of his tasks and positions included preparing ammunition for firing, loading shells into breech, firing a gun by pulling the lever, and placing camouflage to prepare for action. His decorations and citations from the military include a World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, AR 600-58 European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and an American Campaign. He will be truly missed by all that loved and knew him.
