Obituary of harold john wyers

Harold John Wyers, MSGT, USAF (ret), succumbed to cancer Wednesday night, July 31, 2019. He was born August 30, 1928 in Plymouth, England. His family endured the Nazi Blitz of World War 11 and after his father retired as a Chief Petty Officer in The Royal Navy, the family immigrated to the United States in 1947. While a resident alien, Harold was drafted into the U.S. Army, which he served for 2 years and became a United States Citizen. Shortly thereafter, Harold joined the United States Air Force, where he flew as a tow reel operator on tow target planes and later became a specialist working on ejection seats. He also had two tours of duty in Vietnam and Thailand during the conflict. Again, he had to evade hostile rocket attacks from the Viet Cong. And again, the enemy could not hurt him! Harold retired from Active Duty in 1975 and went on to a career in Federal Civil Service, retiring as a GS-11. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret Wyers; and his beloved wife, Edie Wyers. Survivors are his son, Rex Wyers; daughter, Sandy Davidson; plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other very special family members and also his best Air Force Buddy, Richard Jahkel of Pensacola. Harold will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at American Legion Post 240, 8666 Gulf Beach Hwy, Pensacola, Florida 32507. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family wishes any donations be made to Waterfront Mission in lieu of flowers.
