Obituary of terence joseph toner
Terence Joseph “Thunder” Toner passed peacefully at his home in Baker, Florida on July 6, 2019.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Elizabeth Lawing; his sister, Sheila Toner; and his brother, Michael Toner.
Terry is survived by his wife Lindsey Carter Toner; her son Carter; his sons, Daniel and Abraham; his grandchildren, Sean, Lauren, Madelyn, Evan, Blayn; and his loving pup, Sterling.
Terry was born on January 15, 1954 in Havre De Grace, MD. He attended Chester High School in Aston, PA and followed by service in the U.S.A.F. Thunder never had a boring career and after the military, he mastered welding and soon joined the Casper Fire Dept. Terry was a born natural when it came to his years at the CFD, making many lifelong friends and he worked hard at helping his community. It was during these years that he was able to excel at his other two joys in life, hunting and coaching.
Terry was meant to have been born during the great mountain man era. He was never more at home than out exploring Wyoming’s wilder areas. Terry could take you to places that humans had not been in decades, if ever, and if you were willing to put in the effort, Thunder could help you bring home the biggest buck of the season. While hunting and guiding for a few years, Terry also developed quite the knack at cooking, a joy he continued to evolve and share with his wife, Lindsey, until the end.
Many of Terry’s great friends from his later years never got to see Terry coach. Some would never think it, but Terry was a great coach. He spent many years of his son’s youth teaching them and many other Casper youth the pure joy that is baseball. Terry devoted many hours to Casper’s Little League and his proudest accomplishment was the Lucky 11’s, Casper’s first team of 11 year old All Stars. He made sure every kid had a chance and had some fun. He continued to pursue his love of coaching as his sons, Dan and Abe competed throughout school.
Terry came to nursing as a final act to his career. He enjoyed working with the elderly and disabled, helping them in their care and spirit. Terry always understood the power of healing with laughter. Terry was able to work alongside his wife, Lindsey as they served their community.
A celebration of Terry’s life was held on July 10, 2019 in Crestview, FL. A grand gathering was held to share in our love of Terry. The family would like to especially thank Tammy Polk and Carla Polk for all of their support, efforts, and care during Terry’s last days.
