Liselotte Maria Lina Hertlein was born in Gunzenhausen, Germany on June 6, 1935 to Maria and Johann Hertlein and was the oldest of four sisters. Lotte met Rene David Mercier, while he was stationed in Germany in 1960 for the US Army and they married on December 20, 1960 in Basel, Switzerland. Lotte had a 3 year old daughter Marion Eva Hertlein, from a previous marriage whom Rene adopted as his own without hesitation. A few years after marrying they traveled back to the US where Rene was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; there she gave birth to their first son Robert Lee. Shortly after Roberts birth Rene was re-assigned to Ft. Lee, Virginia. Lotte stayed by his side but their time there was short as Rene got orders to go to Fort Wainwright, Alaska for three years, where she gave birth to a second son Anthony Larry. Rene again got orders to go back to Grafenwoehr, Germany where they stayed for 7 years and Lotte gave birth to their youngest son Sean Richard. After serving 22 years in the US Army Rene and Lotte came back to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to retire and raise their kids. Lotte went to work for the Goodyear Tire and Manufacturing plant in Lawton, OK as one of the very first groups of people who started opening day at Goodyear. She worked for Goodyear 18 years and retired with perfect attendance, never missing a single day of work. In 2003 Lotte and Rene built their dream home on 6 acres of land in Cache, Oklahoma to live out their lives in full retirement. She remained very active and was always busy with something or playing bingo until her loving husband passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2007. After the death of her husband she remained in Cache, Oklahoma until 2012 when she decided to move to Pensacola, Florida to spend time with her eldest son Robert, daughter-in-law Sherry, and grand-daughter Brittany. On June 9, 2017, Lotte was excited as her grand-daughter, Brittany gave birth to Lotte’s 3rd great-grandchild, Lanét Lynn Mercier. Lanét was the apple of her eye and she lit up anytime she was around her. She was excited the first time she heard Lanét call her “Oma”…Lanét was given 23 beautiful months with her “Oma” before she was called to be with the Lord and Angels. Lotte enjoyed her life to the fullest until her passing on May 19, 2019, she loved life, her family, bingo, and all animals she came into contact with….Mom, you will be missed but never forgotten, we all Love you! Fly with Dad! Memorial Service for Liselotte Mercier will be held at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home in Lawton, Oklahoma on June 13, 2019 at 11:00 am. After the memorial service there will be a graveside service at Ft. Sill Post Cemetery, as her urn will be buried above the grave of her beloved husband, Rene “David” Mercier.
