Obituary of Peter Anthony Glencoe
Peter Anthony Glencoe, 101, of Pensacola, Florida passed gently and serenely away Friday evening, April 5, 2019. He was three months shy of his 102nd birthday goal.
Peter was born in Davis, West Virginia on July 4, 1917. One of 14 siblings, he was born to Tony Glencoe and Mary (Née Gohacki) Glencoe, both Polish immigrants.
Peter was baptized and confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Thomas, West Virginia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Medical Corps, stationed in Panama and then at the Pentagon. After serving his country, he entered the printing industry as a Lithographer until his retirement. Peter married Ashland, Ohio resident, Virginia Mae McMurray on May 18, 1944. They resided in Ashland until 1988 when they moved to Pensacola, Florida.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, 7 sisters, 6 brothers, and sadly in 2018 his beloved wife of 74 years of marriage, Virginia Mae (née McMurray) Glencoe.
Peter is survived by son, Thomas (Leora) Glencoe of Benicia, California; daughter, Jill (Charles) Kerr of Pensacola, Florida and son, David (Teri) Glencoe of Pensacola, Florida; as well as 7 adored grandchildren, Matthew, Carrie, Susan, Nathan, Kristin, Tony and Steven; 18 precious great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Peter also had a special bond with his son in law Charlie, Charlie's children, Rob, Hollie and Summer and Charlie's grandchildren. Peter is also survived by many special and loved nieces and nephews.
Peter was a hard working man all his life. He was honest, dependable, full of humor, with a keen intellect and quick wit and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son and friend. When the great grandchildren came to visit, they really came to play with Grandpa Glencoe! Peter kept his box of fun toys by his favorite chair and the children surrounded him right up to the end of his amazing long life. Peter will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
The Graveside Service for both Peter (WWII Veteran) and for his late wife Virginia, will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. The procession will meet at 1:00 pm at Olive Baptist Church-Warrington Campus, 103 West Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32507.
In lieu of flowers, Peter’s family requests, and is hopeful that everyone donates their love and extra time to the precious elderly in their families and lives. God Bless Them.
