David Shaw

Obituary of David Allen Shaw

09/20/1941 - 03/14/2019 David was a proud Marine. He entered the Marine Corps a Private First Class at the age of 19 in 1960, advanced in rank throughout his 20-year career, and retired a Master Sergeant. Education was important to him and he always strived to learn, and when given the chance, to teach. He was a great teacher, as evidenced by his various roles throughout his career; including being recognized as Teacher of the Year. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics and his Master of Science in Systems Management, and continued on to his second successful career after the military in Aviation, performing various roles of engineering and design. And he gave back. He did so by volunteering faithfully with the American Red Cross for over five years after his second retirement. He gave of himself, to his family, to his Marine Corps brothers, to his friends, to his students, and often times, to complete strangers. He is preceded in death by his mother, Genevieve Shaw; his father, Evan Shaw; brother, Gene Shaw and nephew, Aaron Shaw. He is survived by wife of almost 32 years, Iva Shirlene Shaw; daughters, Teresa (Rick) Shaw, Christi Bonslaver and Robin (Mike) Gorski; son, James A. Shaw; sister, Joan (Bud) Hamm; grandchildren, Kaylan, Hugh, Zachary and Emelia and many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. A small celebration of life ceremony will be held for close family and friends at a later date for a burial at sea. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Marine Corps League, Corp JR Spears, Detachment 066, C/O Ed Rouse, PO Box 3491, Milton, Florida 32572
