Obituary of Jerry G. Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of JERRY GORDON SMITH, 76, announces that he went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2019 at 1:55 AM CST. Jerry was born in Murfreesboro, TN on June 5, 1942 and was raised in Los Angeles. He graduated from Lutheran High School in 1960 and then attended East Los Angeles College where he got an Associate’s Degree in Arts. Following college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years. Jerry spent most of his life in sales; however, he was also a licensed/ordained minister pastoring Faith Outreach Ministries in Dyer, TN for several years in the early 1980's. His last position held in Pensacola was selling RVs for Carpenter’s Campers where he was frequently Salesman of the Month. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Harold Smith and Gerline McMurry; his stepfather, Doyle McMurry, who raised him; and an infant son. Survivors include three children, son, Wayne Smith (Julia); son, Bradley Smith and a daughter, Tammi Clarke (Jason); a sister, Sherrie Sheldon (David); seven grandchildren, Taylor, Brittany, Justin, Alexis, Carly, Kolbie and Braden; great-grandson, Beckem; nephew, Matthew and niece, Melissa. He is also survived by the mother of his children and best friend of 38 years, Elizabeth Smith. He will also be greatly missed by an aunt and cousins living in California and many friends who love him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM CST at Ferry Pass Baptist Church, 9270 N. Davis Hwy., Pensacola, FL., officiated by Pastor Ken Cook. His interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia where there will be a military memorial service, date and time to be decided.
