Obituary of Dr. Kenneth H. Deuel

Dr. Kenneth H. Deuel, Colonel, United States Air Force (Retired), died on Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Dr. Deuel was born June 7, 1929 in Oxford, New York. He graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and joined the United States Air Force in 1952. During the next 27 years, he served all over the world with tours in France, Germany and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr Deuel was active in many organizations including Armed Forces Optometric Society, the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club board of directors and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church where he was active in the adult choir. Dr. Deuel was married to Jane Popek for over 45 happy years. They shared a love for travel, especially cruising and enjoyed spending time with loved ones. Ken was an avid golfer and took his game very seriously. His love of competition extended to the Thursday night card games at their home. Dr. Deuel’s heart was always open to the younger generation. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephew. In addition, he was an honorary grandfather to the Indonesian Students from Pensacola Christian College. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane; his nieces, Ellen Lewis and Nancy English and his nephew, Bob Deuel. He will be missed and remembered by many, but most of all by his loving wife, Jane. Ken will be cremated and his ashes interred at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held a later date to celebrate his life.
