Obituary of Martha Wilson Hayford

Martha Jean Wilson Hayford, 86, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018. Martha was born October 27, 1931, in Pensacola, Florida and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1948. She attended Florida State University and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was active in Glee Club and AOTT, Alpha Omegran Pi, sorority. Martha taught school at Warrington Elementary School, fifth grade at East Hill Christian School, Adult Basic Education at Pensacola Junior College and at the ARC. Martha married James Hayford of the U.S. Navy in 1957. They resided in California, Colorado, Washington and Hawaii before returning to her hometown of Pensacola, Florida. They had two children, James K. Hayford and Elaine Hayford. Martha was a member of Olive Baptist Church and choir for many years. She loved tutoring children in reading and math, and did so till the age of 81. Martha also volunteered at Baptist Hospital for several years. Martha is preceded in death by her father, Grady Wilson; mother, Lucy Wilson and former husband, James Hayford. Martha is survived by her son, James K. (Rena) Hayford and her daughter, Elaine Hayford. Visitation will be held at 11:00am with services following at 12:00pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Olive Baptist Church, 1836 E. Olive Road, Pensacola, Florida 32504.
