Eddie Mayo

Obituary of Eddie C. Mayo

Eddie Charles Mayo, Sr., 82, of Pensacola, Florida went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 17, 2018. He was born January 3, 1936 in Panama City, Florida. Eddie served his country by joining the Army in 1955. He later retired in 2001 from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department after 36 years of service to his community. Today we are celebrating the gifts that Eddie has brought to each of us who had the privilege of knowing him. He was not flashy or loud, but was quite a jokester and loved to make others laugh. Eddie never met a stranger, and he made such an impact on his family and the world around him. His boundless enthusiasm for his country made you proud to celebrate his patriotism. Conversations with Eddie were rich and rare. He was a man of character, principles and values. He was a man with a big spirit, big personality and a huge sense of humor with an ever giving heart. Eddie was a wonderful man that loved and was loved and he will be missed greatly and will always be cherished. We each can take something from his life that stays with us. His parting is temporary, so today we find a reminder, and it is reassuring: in death, there is life. Eddie would say, “Laugh as we always laughed, sing as we always sang and one more song from my karaoke friends until…” Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Alice Watson Mayo; sister, Agnes and brother, Harold Mayo. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Slay Mayo; son, Eddie Charles (Margaret) Mayo, Jr.; two daughters, Joann (Mike) and Patrice (Mike); brother, Donald (Sue) Mayo; sister-in-law, Renata Mayo and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank Dr. David Miles and Dr. Robert Kincaid for their continued care. A special thank you to the Covenant Hospice staff at West Florida Hospital for ensuring this transition in Eddie’s life was done with compassion, gentleness and dignity. The Memorial Celebration will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Family-Funeral and Cremation, 7253 Plantation Road, Pensacola, Florida. The procession for the Committal Service will meet at 12:15 pm at Olive Baptist Church-West Campus, 103 West Winthrop Avenue for the 12:30 pm service at Barrancas National Cemetery.
