Obituary of Mary Edith Rollings

Mary Edith Rollings graduated to heaven on February 18, 2018. Born Mary Edith Dunn on September 19, 1934 in Montgomery, Alabama, “Edith” grew up in Conecuh County (Evergreen). After completing high school, she moved to Mobile and worked at Brookley Air Force Base. While living in Mobile she met William “Bill” Rollings at Community of Christ Church and the two were wed in June of 1955. Following Bill’s graduation from Auburn University, they moved to Pensacola in December of 1960 where they raised their three children; Kim Marie McMahon (Steve Vandergriff), Sherry Lane Williams (Ron), and Russell Payton Rollings. She and Bill fostered a close-knit relationship with their family and friends. They were particularly passionate about their ministerial work and served together within their church. Later in life, the Rollings family often traveled together on vacations. After her children were grown and had families of their own, she and Bill moved to Gulf Breeze in March of 2000. She taught each of her children the value of humility and honesty. She and Bill loved spending time with their five grandchildren (Winston, Mary Alice, William, Dylan, and Adam). As a wife, mother, friend, and role model, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her – yet we know she is thrilled to be in heaven; after all, there is a wonderful reunion taking place: she was preceded in earthly death by her parents, her younger brother Charles Dunn, and her grandson William Rollings McMahon. She leaves behind one sister, Faye Marie Jernigan (Billy). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 am, at Community of Christ Church, 3190 East Olive Road, Pensacola. A brief graveside service will be held afterward at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway 90, Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions in Edith’s name be made to the charity of one’s choice, or Emerald Coast Hospice, 5111 N 12th Avenue Suite B, Pensacola, FL 32503. We cannot thank them enough for the care and comfort they provided throughout her final days on earth.
