Obituary of Patrick Shawn McCormack

November 21, 1959 – November 12, 2017 Patrick “Pat” Shawn McCormack, a lifelong Pensacola resident passed away on November 12, following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 21, 1959 in Pensacola, Florida to Larry and Nell McCormack. He was the fourth of five children, attended Pensacola Catholic High School and graduated in 1978. He was an accomplished baseball player for the Crusaders and lettered 4 times. His classmates and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will remember him as a kind and lovable guy with a ready sense of humor. It was one of his most endearing traits! Anyone who knew Pat knew he was an avid Notre Dame fan. When he was a child he was the designated Leprechaun mascot for the Notre Dame club of Pensacola and there could never have been a more perfect handsome, red haired Irishman chosen to represent. His love of the Irish only grew stronger as he got older and he was one of their biggest fans. His last hours on earth were spent watching the Irish play football on TV. On October 25, 2015, Pat married the love of his life, Cathy Mooney. Although they had only 3 short years together on this earth before Pat left us, she was such a blessing to him and brought him so much happiness and joy. Pat enjoyed fishing, following his favorite sports team, reading and working cross word puzzles. He was a loving husband, brother, father and absolutely adored his grandchildren. He was a man of strong character who came through many challenges in his life and never lost his gentle kindness to others. He will be greatly missed by many. Pat is survived by his wife, Cathy and children Sheena Mincy(Mike) and Logan McCormack (Kelly Scharer);mother-in-law Virginia Cole;stepchildren Candy Porter and Angela Mooney; grandchildren Lucy, Ellie Mae and Patrick; Ten step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; Brother Mike (Pattie), sisters Cathy Hawkins (Billy), Beth Gomrick (Dan) and Teri Bowen; and dozens of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly. Respecting his wishes, there will be a private family service in the near future. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 5111 North 12th Avenue, Suite B, Pensacola, Florida 32504.
