Obituary of Daryl Lee Swinney
On June 3, 2017, Daryl Lee Robinson Snyder Swinney was summoned to appear before her Creator. She died peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness. Her family knows she made the trip with joy knowing that her Savior would be there to welcome her. She had acknowledged in life that Jesus Christ the Son of God died on the cross so that all sins she had committed were forgiven.
She was preceded in death by her father, Francis “Glen” Robinson and her mother, Evelyne Constance Robinson. Daryl was raised and attended the public schools in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was married for 48 years to James Russell “Russ” Swinney who survived her. She met him in 1968 while on vacation in Florida from Indiana. She became a widow with three small children after a drunk driver killed her husband, David Snyder. She and Russ found they had a lot in common and Russ fell for her big brown eyes, easy going manner, beautiful smile and out look on life. He proposed marriage, she accepted and they were united on April 28, 1969. In marrying her, Russ also married the three children, David Mark, Charla Jo (Finley) and Paul Alan who he formally adopted that same year. Russ and Daryl planned to have another child and quickly added to the family by the arrival of Alisa Lee (Dixon) on July 29, 1970. Seven years later another daughter surprised them with her heartbeat. Sarah Elizabeth (Tibbett) arrived in July 29, 1977.
Daryl was also survived by eight grandchildren, Gina (Mark), Trever, Kristen & Colin (Charla), Madison & Katie (Paul), Brice and Grace (Sarah), and two step-grandchildren, Scott & Katie (Paul). In addition, four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony, Adalyn (Gina) and Jacob (Madison). She is also survived by a brother, Francis Robinson (Diana) of Shelbyville, Indiana and numerous nephews and nieces.
Before moving to Florida, Daryl attended Purdue University but cut short her education when she married and started a family. After the children begin to leave the nest to strike out on their own she decided to enroll at U.W.F. to finish getting her B.A. degree majoring in early childhood elementary education with Magna Cum Laude honors. On completion, she started teaching in 1987 finishing her last year in 2007 at Oakcrest Elementary. In 2003, she was named Teacher of the Year at Oakcrest and became one of the ten finalists for Teacher of the Year for Escambia County.
Russ and the family wish to sincerely thank the many people from West Florida Hospital, Bayside Health & Rehab Center, and the Emerald Coast Hospice who attended to her needs during the last several months with loving care especially “Adam” her nurse and “Athenia (her aide).
A procession will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Family-Funeral & Cremation, 7253 Plantation Road, Pensacola, Florida at 10:45am for interment at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:30am.
