Obituary of James Wesley Carte
James "Jim" Wesley Carte, age 54, was born on May 9, 1968 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He passed away on April 10, 2023 after a long battle with heart disease at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. A lifelong resident of Fort Walton Beach, Jim was born to Carolyn Wilkins Carte and the late James H. Carte. Prior to Jim's heart disease, he was employed with Destin Sunrise Marine in Mary Esther, FL.
Jim loved his family and was a good friend to many. He was always lending a hand to help anyone in need. Jim's memory will live on and be greatly cherished by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Carte; maternal grandparents, Clinton L. and Agnes P. Wilkins; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Reeves Carte.
Jim loved the outdoors, especially taking his boys fishing and hunting when they were younger. He also enjoyed working on vehicles. Some would say that Jim was a jack of all trades and a master on none. There wasn't much that he was afraid to tackle.
Survivors include the love of his life, Crystal Martin of Fort Walton Beach, FL; mother, Carolyn A. Carte of Shalimar, FL; son, Chad M. Carte of Fort Walton Beach, FL; two sons that he raised, Michael A. Swartz (Andrea) of Honolulu, Hawaii and Brian Serven (Marisa) of Navarre, FL; 4 grandchildren, Kaden (Bubba), Cayley (Bella), Logan, and Colton; aunt, Phyllis J. Gortman; cousins, Christopher M. Wood and Russell A. Wood of Wewahitchka, FL. Jim also leaves behind a very dear friend, David Buroker, who has been a brother "by another mother" to him since their teenage years.
Jim would not want family and friends to grieve for him, but remember him for good times.
A Limb has fallen from the family tree,
I keep hearing a voice saying "grieve not for me."
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song
And the good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
I am at ease, my soul is at rest
Remembering all and how truly I was blessed.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin
Until the day comes we're all together again.
Goodbye.
