Maria Trammel

Obituary of Maria Gerhard Trammel

It is with heavy hearts that on April 12, 2023, the family of Maria Gerhard Trammel (Mia, Mutti, Oma, Tante) had to say goodbye.

Maria was born in Germany in 1934 to Engelbert and Anna Gerhard. She was preceded in death by husband Robert (SFC, USA RET), brother Irwin, sisters Rosi and Gertrude, and grandsons Micah and Kyle. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Leni and Klara, and six loving and caring daughters: Marion Untalan (Joe), Irmgard Alejandro (Jose), Maggie Switalski (Mark), Dr. Pam Trammel (Dorothy), Jennifer Collins, MSN, and Dr. Michelle Trammel. Proud Oma to Cinnamon, J.R. (Sarah), Brienne (James), Sean (Ashley), Leah (Eric), Adrian (Ali), Daniel, Dylan, Tyler, Brooklynn, Steffanie, Andrew, and Josef. Great-grandchildren Emma, Madeleine, Jameson, Rhett, Aria Rose, Barrett, Aidden, Jordan, Kaleb, Keaton, Diego, and Alexandria. Special family friends, Christina, Ronnie, Nick, Selena, and Sharon Raggio. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Maria lived a long, productive life and was blessed with a large family and special friends. She was a strong force of life with boundless energy. Her family enjoyed her cooking, especially her soups, German potato salad (which never lasted long enough to be eaten cold), coffee cakes, banana breads, and pastries. She loved the company of her family and friends, gardening, walks on the beach, and daily workouts at the gym (yes, into her early 80's). Maria was a proud Army wife and mother of four military veterans. Despite frequent moves, she always provided stability for her family in her husband's absence due to his military duties. She and her husband settled in Mary Esther, Florida, after retirement. Maria loved living on the gulf coast of Florida. Her Catholic faith was important to her, and she attended mass regularly.

Maria's unconditional service and support to her various local Catholic communities will be missed. She had dedicated countless hours to cooking and cleaning for the diocese members throughout the many beautiful locations she was blessed to have lived. Her fellowship will be greatly missed.

In honor of her wishes, her funeral service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, on Wednesday, May 30, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Procession will form at Olive Baptist Church - Warrington Campus, at 103 West Winthrop Avenue Pensacola, Fl 32570 on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM.

Mutti/Oma/Schwester/Tante, we celebrate your life, and your memory will live on in our hearts. The family would like to thank all those who share in our grief and have provided comforting words of support.
