While our life was tragic and full of loss my father always tried to keep things simple. He loved to fix things, be outdoors camping, fishing and riding motorcycles. Some of my fondest memories were being little and riding on the back of those motorcycles. Another was a father's day fishing trip we took when I was a teenager. I was so excited that day to have caught 3 huge carp. Unfortunately, one by one the 3 carps got away, I think we went home with a few catfish and some blue gills that day. As discouraged as I was that day my father always raised me to never give up.
As a promise to my father I will fix that motorcycle you gave me several years back. An I will ride with my son just as my father did with me, My son will also go camping and fishing and know the value of perseverance, inner strength and hard work. As a father I look at my son everyday in awe, an I wonder if that's what my father did. The cancer may have taken his physical body away, but it will not take away the many memories good and bad. My father will be missed by his family and friends we know he's in a much better place now and forever.
