Obituary of Dennis Neil Daehler, SR

Dennis N. Daehler Sr. (Denny), 73, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Carpentersville and Belvidere, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Crestview, Florida. He was born February 17, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa, to the late Carl N. and Maxine M. (Steen) Daehler.

Dennis was a hard-working family man, who enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting. He was especially proud of the bear he shot when we went to Canada. He also dearly loved his dogs, Bear, Teddi, Lily, and grand-dog Gizmo. His wife, Susan, was the love of his life. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Waukon, Iowa and a graduate of Milton-Union High School of Milton, Wisconsin class of 1968. He wrestled throughout high school, competing at the state level multiple times. In the early 80s, Dennis loved to coach little league in Carpentersville, Illinois; his team, the Giants, won many championships.

Dennis loved being a journeyman carpenter of 45 years, some of his notable projects include the Dundee Township Park District, Sears (Willis) tower, Mayfair building, Deep Tunnel System in Chicago, O’Hare exchange, Rosemont Horizon Music Arena (Allstate Arena), Crystal Lake Sewer System, and numerous Menard’s stores while working closely with John Menard. He concluded his career as the Superintendent for H.J. Martin of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Susan Daehler; children, Dennis Jr. (Deanna) Daehler, Pamela (Chris) Daehler, James Daehler, Clinton Daehler, and Thomas (Teresa) Daehler; siblings, Jack (Bonnie), Rick (Beth), Larry (Melanie), Terri (Gary), Bret (Donna), Derrick (Sarah), Colby (Carla), Bob (Kathy), Linda, Cindy, Tammy (Steve), and Scott; 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his Dad, Robert (Red) Nisius, his sisters, Judy and Shelby, cousins, Ronnie and Butch Nisius, and his constant companion, Bear.

There was a celebration of life dinner held on Saturday, May 20th in Holt, Florida. There will be a memorial luncheon in Waukon, Iowa at a later date.
