Obituary of Bessie Marie Welch

Bessie Gilbert Welch age 90 of Milton, Florida passed away on Friday, October 6,

2023 from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Bessie was born December 5, 1932 in Lenoir, North Carolina. Bessie was the

daughter of the late James "Jim" and Annie Massey Gilbert.

In addition to her

parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles V Welch,;

sisters, Mae Gilbert Ashley, Thelma Gilbert Deal, Effie Gilbert Bradshaw and Martha Gilbert Shell.\

Survivors include her longtime Caregiver and beloved niece Ruth Kaylor, sisters,

Mildred Gilbert Ward, Peggy Gilbert Puett, Mary Gilbert Ross and Laura Ann Gilbert

Pennell; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bessie worked as a nurse for many years as well as serving as caregiver for

several relatives and friends. Bessie was also heavily involved for over 50 years

with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association in both Milton and

Pensacola Florida where she held many offices including Southeast Regional

President and Institution Chaplin. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW.

Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date. As per Bessie's

request no additional services are planned at this time

and Shriners Hospital for Children
