Gloria Carter

Obituary of Gloria Maxine Carter

Gloria Maxine Carter, age 98, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 13, 2023.

Gloria was born in Pensacola, Florida, on August 22, 1925, to Lonnie Jackson Nall, Sr and Blanche Lee (Stacey) Nall. Her parents preceded her in death when she was young. She was happily raised by her aunt and then her older sister, Jane.

Gloria married early in life and had her two daughters. She retired from the City of Pensacola after 25 years of dedicated service. She was the first person to greet customers, and the one they remembered for her friendliness. Gloria later married John Carter and was blessed with five bonus children. John and Gloria were true soulmates, and all people could see the adoration they had for each other. From 1976 until his passing in 1991, they lived life together to the fullest on Pensacola Beach. Gloria and John had many friends and acquaintances who happily joined them in their adventures. They were active members of both the Krewe of Wrecks and Pensacola Beach Elks Lodge, where they enjoyed all festivities.

After John’s passing, Gloria moved to Gulf Breeze. She traveled with friends extensively around the world, continuing to live life to the fullest. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Gloria loved her family and friends, and her love was always unconditional. She was always ready to share a friendly smile, give encouraging words, and listen intently to everyone. And, certainly Gloria was known for her ability to always be dressed “to the T”. Her vibrant personality as “Miss Gloria” was loved by everyone including her caretakers up to the time of her death.

Gloria is survived by her daughters, Delores Wernet (Lockwood), Mitzie Baysden (Larry) and Julie Sozansky (Paul); grandson, David (Kayla); and great-grandchildren, William, Gloria, and Eliza. She was especially blessed by a loving bonus granddaughter, Vicki; ten other bonus grandchildren, fourteen bonus great grandchildren, and four bonus great great grandchildren.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and husband; siblings, Alberta Grunewald, Clara Jane Nichols, Dorothy Free, and Jack Nall; and bonus children Joy Perry, Clare Zelius, Cathy Emma, and Michael Carter.

We especially want to thank the precious staff of The Blake at Miramar Beach for their 2 ½ years devotion to Gloria, as well as Emerald Coast Hospice of Miramar Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.
