Obituary of Magdalyn Smith Turner

Magdalyn Smith Turner

On December 16, 2023, Magdalyn Turner, lovingly called Nan, passed away of natural causes at the age of 91, in the comfort of her home of 60 years in Pensacola, Florida.    She joins in Heaven her beloved son, Mark Sherwood Turner (Nancy Turner), her 7 siblings and her parents John Malone Smith and Katie Bradley of Coffee County, Sampson, Alabama.

Nan was an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and retired from West Florida Hospital, where she met her best friend of over 50 years, Dottie Dinsmore.  She was a caregiver at heart so she opened a congregate home with her neighbor and friend Betty Kirkland.  Nan was an avid reader, loved to write short stories and work in her rose garden, but her favorite pastime was rocking her babies to sleep.  She was a gifted seamstress who could create clothing without a pattern.  Everyone in her neighborhood Oakfield Acres, young and old would find their way down to Nan’s house for some of her fried chicken, whipped potatoes and Nan Tea.  She would nurse any ailment and she used every opportunity to teach God’s Love and Grace.

Nan is survived by her husband of 73 years, Jerry Turner, her children Gail Smith (Joe Smith); David Turner (Lisa Turner now deceased); Lisa Russo (John Russo); her grandchildren Amanda Turner; Dr. Rachel Bevins (Dr. Tyler Bevins and great-granddaughters Magdalyn & Adeline Bevins); Andrea Kellar (Ryan Kellar); Dr. Tyler Turner (Ashley Turner and great-grandson Liam Turner); Myles Turner; Dylen Turner (Sandra Turner and great-grandson Easton Turner).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:00 am (9:00 am viewing) at Family Funeral Home located on 5627 North Davis Highway, Pensacola, Florida.  Nan was an active member of Ensley Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.  Her Pastor Gina Bryan will be officiating as well as performing Nan’s favorite Hymn, Amazing Grace.   Following the service, everyone will join a processional to NAS where she will be laid to rest.  We will all gather together to celebrate her blessed life at her favorite restaurant, The House of Chong on Navy Boulevard.  Lunch will be provided.

Magdalyn Turner was a loving wife who dedicated her lifetime serving her family, friends and her Lord and Savior.  She will be dearly missed.
