Susan Hontz

Obituary of Susan Carole Milne Hontz

Susan Carol (Milne) Hontz passed from this world peacefully at the age of 69, on the evening of March 16th, 2024, while in the comforting hands of Covenant Care Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fl. She was surrounded by the love and prayers of her children and family.

Susan was born to the late John and Sarah (Cavallaro) Milne on December 13th,1954 in Hartford, CT. She was one of five children eventually born to the couple. All of whom were raised in Enfield at 4 Dale Road.

Susan graduated from Enfield High School in 1972. While in high school, she had the opportunity to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant caring for nursing home residents within the Enfield community. This experience inspired a life-long passion for providing nursing care and comfort to others.

Following her graduation from high school, Susan met and married, Drue Hontz, having their first child, Kristina, in 1973. Eventually the three moved to Orlando, Fl, where son, Todd, completed their family in 1976.

In pursuit of a career in nursing, Susan graduated from the Florida Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1979 and worked as an LPN for 45 years. While not practicing at the time of her passing, she also had not retired and vehemently denied that she ever would.

Susan loved music, and her lifetime, as for many, had its own soundtrack. Linda Ronstadt, Anne Murray, Bob Seger, and Trisha Yearwood were just a very few of her favorites. She sang passionately in the car, the living room, or the kitchen, using a spatula or hairbrush as her microphone, singing either solos, duets, or ensembles when she could enroll her children, family, or friends to join in.

Life had taken her up and down the east coast several times over her years, resulting in her putting down roots in Socastee, SC., where she lived and worked for 11 years. Susan also enjoyed the beach, having gone by "Flipflop Nurse" for decades. Following her divorce in 2012, she moved back to FL from SC, living and working in Port Orange and had most recently settled in Milton, FL. to be closer to family. She had finally found her place in the sun.

Susan had a smile and a laugh that could brighten even the darkest days. She carried a spirit of warmth and love within her that drew people both known and unknown into her light.

Susan’s greatest love was for her children and her grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than watching them grow up to accomplish their goals and dreams. She was so proud of the unique individuals they had become.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kristina Hontz and her long-term partner, Adam Graef of Enfield, CT; Todd Hontz and his wife Wendy Nichols Hontz of Ormond Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Aidyn Bergeron and her fiancé, Kevin Cugini of Milford, CT, Maison Bergeron of Milford, CT, Jordyn Demyon, Jonathan Demyon, and Sydney Demyon, all of Granville, MA.

She also leaves her beloved siblings, brothers John Milne and his wife, Irene of Stewart, FL; Gregory Milne and his wife, Frances of Navarre, FL.; Jeffrey Milne of Feeding Hills, MA.; and her sister, Patricia (Milne) Dillenback of Milton, Fl.; along with several nieces, nephews, and their children.

She leaves behind a host of cousins, aunts and uncles, and a vast extended family by blood or by marriage who are very near and dear to her heart. As well as several close and invaluable friends, too numerous to mention.

Services will be held privately by family. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at a later time and details will follow.

Susan has given care to hundreds of patients and their families throughout her career. As she was one, she also worked alongside many other living angels on earth doing God's work. Please celebrate her legacy of care by considering a donation to your local American Cancer Society or community hospice care provider.
