David Holcomb

Obituary of David Eugene Holcomb

David Eugene Holcomb, 74, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 surrounded by his family following a brief illness. Born in Gulfport, MS on January 10, 1950 to Eugene (Gene) and Sue Holcomb, he met the love of his life, Kathy Holcomb on the steps of Saint John’s Catholic Church in 1965. They married on June 5, 1971 and spent their married years in Long Beach, MS; Jacksonville, FL; and Mobile, AL before settling down in Pensacola.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gene and Sue as well as brothers Rick and Jeff. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Holcomb; his three sisters Carol, Karen (Roy), and Linda (Randy); his children Rebecca (Donald) and Christopher; and his grandchildren Dominic, Kathleen, Eva, and Evelyn along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

As a young man, David delved into the world of construction, first helping his uncles with jobs in their construction company and then later opening his own business, Holcomb Building Service. From constructing and remodeling homes to building fireplace mantels, bookshelves, and staircases, he could turn any piece of raw wood into a work of art. Later, as he began a career in general contracting, he built not only the home in which he lived but also a house across the street for his daughter and son-in-law in a place affectionately known as “The Compound.”

However, the true loves of his life were his high school sweetheart Kathy and his beloved family. David was known for his immense generosity, quick wit, musical talent, honesty, and deep faith.

As a righteous man and carpenter, he modeled his life on that of Saint Joseph who loved, cared for, and protected Mary and Jesus. As Pope Leo XIII once said, “In Joseph…heads of the household are blessed with the unsurpassed model of fatherly watchfulness and care.” All aspects of David’s life were a witness to this great saint.
