To Don's family,
we are Christian and Alex from Bavaria (Germany). We met Don in Pensacola at one of the Homecoming Airshows. That was more than 10 years ago . We became friends and from then on we exchanged photos of the airshows. He was always happy when I sent him photos of European airshows, usually as a calendar for the new year. Don allowed us to get very close to the air base and showed us the best places to spot. He sent pictures from animals and his birds to Alex. Whenever we were in Pensacola, we met up and spent some time together. In the last years he sent many videos of his Blue Angels and other airshow activities (jet truck, aerobatics) Don was a very nice person, a great photographer and a good friend. We were very sad to hear that Don had passed away. We hoped to see him again this year. We will miss him.
Your friends Christian and Alex

Don and I were married 14 years. Then he and Peggy were married 20 years. I always maintained a love for him that was never lost. These past few years have been a blessing because I was able to talk to him several times a month discussing life, painting ideas, techniques, etc. His creativity never ceased to amaze me. My life feels empty now knowing I cannot touch basis with him. He was a light to this world that is gone but his wonderful personality and talents will always remain for us to enjoy in memory. All the wonderful comments made about him on Nextdoor were very inspirational and were testimonial to the wonderful person he was. I will miss you so much.
Your Loving First Wife

I didn’t know Don personally, but I loved to look at all of his photos that he took and posted on next-door. He was truly a great artist and had a great eye for taking photos of birds, animals, the night sky, and more. I will miss seeing his photos on next-door app. Thank you Don up in heaven for all the wonderful photos you took and shared. Peggy G.

OMG. . .I loved seeing his photos. Didn't know him personally, but we commented back and forth a few times, last for the solar eclipse, told him I couldn't wait to see his photos and they were amazing, but my favorites are his of the Blue Angels. Now he is kinda flying with them. . . Don and his photos will be truly missed. Rest In Peace Sir

To my brother, Don. I can’t believe you’re gone & can’t imagine life without you. My heart is broken. You were the oldest of 5 kids & we all looked up to you. What a wonderful brother you always were. You were 15 when Debbie (the youngest)
was born. You were always there for us & kept us laughing till we cried whenever we got together. The five of us had a bond that couldn’t be broken, ‘All for one & One for all’. After Dad & Mom passed away, we ended up scattered between NC, SC & Pensacola but stayed in touch nearly every week through our group text.
We have so many happy memories to hold onto until we see you again in Heaven. Love you with all my heart.
Your sister,
Cathy

I offer my sincere condolences to the family. Don was a special kind of person who brought so much joy to others. His amazing and beautiful photos of hummingbirds, squirrels and his dazzling pictures of the night skies brought so much joy to me and all of his friends on the Next Door website. He will certainly be missed by all of us!

We should all be aware we have lost one of our own. My friend and one of the most skillful of people Artists I have ever known. I’m caught by surprise and would like to commemorate Don for all the happiness he has brought to our lives. He’s in God’s presence for eternity. May peace be with him and his remembrance with all of his many friends here on Nextdoor, where he is still greatly appreciated. His work will carry his memory.

To Dons Family and friends-
I just found out about Don along with many others on Next Door App. It’s hard to put into words right now from the grief I am feeling. Just know that Don was not just an ordinary person. He was extraordinary in his photography, his love for animals, his love for the universe and everything about it. Oh how he loved photographing the moon. The last taken was of the eclipse and oh how beautiful it was. But what I also found most extraordinary was his compassion and the love he had for people. I never heard him say one bad thing about anyone! That is a trait very rare these days. I can’t name one other person like him. Oh how he admired and loved The Blue Angels as well. He couldn’t say enough in how special the pilots are. He had more kindness in him than in anyone I’ve ever known in my 70+ years. In the 2 years I was getting to know Don I kept realizing he was the kind of person that I wished we could all be like. The world would definitely be like being in heaven if we all were all like him. Never a bad word ever come from his mouth. And oh how he loved and spoke of his family. He told me how he’d enjoy visiting family and enjoyed watching the children playing and having fun. He just told me a few weeks ago that he wanted to have a reunion with his sisters and brothers. I hate he wasn’t able to pull that off but just know that he loved everyone of his brothers and sisters. I’m just saddened that I didn’t get the chance to go meet him at the Palafox Pier. We were just planning on meeting there soon and I was so excited at the thought. We had been like pen pals and wrote back and forth about everything. I had really fallen for him.
I hadn’t been this happy in a long time. What a remarkable, kind and gentle soul he was. He will be truly missed and the world feels so empty without him.
But I know I’ll find him all in good time and I thank the good Lord for sending him into my life.
Rest In Peace My dearest friend Don.
