Margaret Shimmin (1941 -2024)
Margaret, 82 of Pensacola Florida, Died on May 4 th , 2024.
Margaret (Marge) Ann Shimmin was born October 26,1941 to George and Reba Strain Shimmin at their
home in Forbes, ND.
She grew up and attended 12 years of school in Forbes. She was active in chorus, band and was a player
on the 1959 State Championship Basketball team. After graduating from high school, she attended St
Luke’s school of nursing in Fargo, ND. received a diploma in nursing in 1962. She was a Nurse in the
Army for three years, 1967 – 1970, Honorably Discharged at the rank of Captain. She earned a Bachelor
of Social Work from The University of West Florida in Pensacola in 1978 and a certificate in OB-GYN
nurse practitioner studies from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983. Concluding her
education with a Master of Public Health from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1986, she
was licensed as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Florida until her retirement.
She was previously licensed as a nurse in Alabama, Florida, and North Dakota. She was also the holder of
two national certifications. The first was a certification in Maternal-Gynecological-Neonatal Nursing
presented by the American Nursing Association and Nurses Association of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists in 1978. The second was a certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
presented by the Nurses Certification Corporation in 1983. She retired in 2006.
Margaret was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's
Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and
Who's Who of American Women.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community,
Margaret was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis
Who’s Who.
Beyond the education and career achievements, she was a great friend, and was held as auntie to many,
she was a mother figure to those that needed that as well, a confidant, a caring ear, a wonderful smile,
great laugh. Lifelong dedication to her church and her Siamese cats.
She is survived by her brother Edwin and (Barbara), nephew Dana, and two nieces Lynne (Joe), Gail
(Phil).
Memorial service to be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church 3400 Bayou Blvd. Pensacola Florida on
Tuesday May 14 th at 10am CST, the service will be streamed https://youtube.com/live/kvFpzN2dl_Y
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church or the Red Cross was Margaret’s wishes.
Margaret is to be buried in Ellendale, date yet to be determined.
