Ronald Peterson

Obituary of Ronald Eugene Peterson

Ronald Eugene Peterson passed away in his home on Saturday, July 20th 2024 surrounded by loved ones.  He was 82 years old.  Ronald was born in Princess Anne county Maryland to Beulah Mae and George M. Peterson.  Throughout his life he lived in a great many places across the United States, including towns and cities in Maryland, Virginia, California, Nevada, Louisiana, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  Most of all he spent the last 28 years of his life living in Niceville, Florida, a town and state that captured his heart and allowed him to pursue one of his dearest hobbies and part-time professions – running a shrimp boat.  Because of this, Ronald is probably best known by the moniker of Capt’n Ron, often shouted to him when he was recognized by friends all across the Gulf Coast.

Ronald’s full time profession for more than forty years was a carpenter and drywall finisher.  On top of fishing, shrimping, or just spending leisure time on his boat, Ronald also enjoyed leatherworking, darts, and cheering on his beloved Saints.  Who dat!

Ronald was quite active in community organizations here on the Gulf Coast as well.  He and his late wife Deborah both were members and supporters of the Emerald Coast Parrot Head Club, and helped participate in parades and organize community outreach events.  He was also an active member of the Twin Cities Elks Lodge with a beloved reputation and many close friendships thanks to his affiliation with this organization, including a special friendship with Lorraine Jones who sadly also passed away in December of 2023.

He is survived by his children, Glenn Peterson, Ronda-Lee Peterson, George Peterson, Christie Peterson, and Jayson Jay-Peterson; grandchildren, Heather Lippa, Casia Peterson, John Clayton, Alyssa Perdue, Jeremy Delacruz, Amber Delacruz, Leilani Jay-Peterson, and Hannah Jay-Peterson; great-grandchildren, Channing Lippa, Kaydin Clayton, and Lyric Clayton.

He is preceded in death by his wife Deborah Anne Jay Peterson.
