Obituary of Randal Lane Shiver
A great sadness descended on November 19, 2024, when Randal Lane Shiver, 66, left us, ending his earthly journey. His mischievous smile cannot be seen anymore, nor his infectious laughter be heard. Many pets will be looking for dog biscuits and children for the cookies he always kept handy. Randal will be greatly missed by so many.
Randal Lane Shiver was born to Rudolph B. Shiver, Sr. and Marie Shiver on January 15, 1958. Randal was proud to be a true Florida native, having been born and raised in Pensacola. He remained in Pensacola and Milton for most of his all life. Randal was blessed to have a fiercely loyal and loving family and treasured any time he could spend with them.
In high school, Randal studied various areas of construction. He also received an even broader education from his father who taught him to build and repair pretty much anything. He found that he loved carpentry and took great pride in the finished work. He reluctantly left this field when his physicians advised him of potential health complications. Randal began a second career as a Private Investigator/Claims Adjustor for Workman’s Compensation. Randal eventually opened his own company, All Pro Investigations and Adjusting. He worked in these fields until his health forced his early retirement. Randal was known for his honesty, high work ethic and the excellence of his work in all fields.
Randal faced more medical challenges than most in his life, which he met with courage and determination. He became an insulin dependent diabetic at 9 years of age. During his life, he experienced the full spectrum of complications from diabetes. When he received his kidney and pancreas transplants, his doctors were impressed that Randal had continued to run his company from his hospital bed. Randal defied and exceeded his doctors’ expectations time and time again. He fought hard against diabetes all his life, living many years beyond what was expected. He loved life and his family. But this year, Randal was diagnosed with cancer. His one and only cancer treatment resulted in many significant side effects which eventually took his life. While we mourn his loss, we try to take comfort in knowledge that he is no longer suffering as he is in God’s loving hands.
Randal had a passion for cars from an early age. He especially enjoyed driving cars and working on cars. Randal had the same passion for motorcycles, too. Over the years, family vacations were primarily motorcycle trips which included rides in the Smoky Mountains as well as longer cross-country rides to Maine, Yellowstone Park and the Pacific Coast. Randal also loved being on the water in a boat, running Blackwater River – fast! Randal had recently become interested in off-roading in his Jeep along with his son, Cody, his brother, Bud, and his nephew, Frank. In 2023, a family convoy of 4 Shiver Jeeps went to the Smokies and rode the off-road trails. Being the consummate Grillmaster, Randal grilled hamburgers one night for the family and the aroma was so enticing that a few bears came around the cabin to check it out. Life was always interesting around Randal Lane Shiver.
Randal is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mayla (Welford) Shiver, his beloved son, Cody (Anna) Shiver, his granddaughter, Summer Shiver, his mother Marie Shiver, his brother, Bud (Sarah) Shiver, and his sister, Rita (Guy) Connell as well as a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Randal was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph B. Shiver, Sr and his beloved Granny, Rosa Young.
