Obituary of David Lee Darrington
David Darrington, a dedicated father, brother, and Army veteran, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on August 12, 1965, in Clarke County, Alabama to Eartha Mae James and John Edward Darrington, Sr., David was a man of strength, honor, and devotion, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.
David was educated in the Clarke County School District, where he attended Jackson High School. There, he distinguished himself as a stellar athlete, excelling in a variety of sports. He was a running back for the Jackson Aggies football team (#22) and was particularly known for his skills in basketball as a point guard, earning the nickname “Trigger” man for his exceptional shooting abilities. His athleticism and determination made him a respected figure in the school’s sports community.
After high school, David attended Alabama State University. Following, David proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and discipline serving in Germany, Colorado and Louisiana. After his military service, he continued to serve his community as a firefighter, where his dedication and courage earned him the prestigious Rookie of the Year award.
David’s life was centered around his deep faith in Jesus Christ. He was an active member of St. James AME Church and later Friendship Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a trustee and deacon. His commitment to God was evident in his dedication to the church, where he supported numerous ministries and always strived to live out his faith in every aspect of his life.
David will be fondly remembered for his warm, generous spirit and his infectious sense of humor. He had a gift for making those around him laugh, and his deep, contagious laugh could brighten any room. He was the kind of person who could always bring a smile to your face, no matter the situation. His jokes, quick wit, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Eartha Mae James Darrington and John Edward Darrington, Sr., his brother William Darrington, and his sister Lesia Darrington Hill.
A loving and devoted father, David was deeply proud of his children: Krystal Woods, Princeton Foster, Joshua S. Darrington, William F. Darrington, and Kennedy E. Darrington. His family was everything to him, and he was always there to support, guide, and encourage them. He is also survived by a special friend, Fredeisha Harper Darrington; his sisters, Linda (Lee Arthur) Perine (Mobile, AL), Bonita Faye Allen (Selma, AL), Estella (Gerald) Parker (Semmes, AL), and Staci (Lee) Foster (Semmes, AL); and his brothers, Carl (Veda) James (Round Rock, TX), and John Edward Darrington, Jr. (Selma, AL), and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends..
David’s family and friends will remember him for his strong character, selflessness, and deep love for those around him. He made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.
May David rest in peace, knowing his love and contributions will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at his home church, St. James AME Church in Jackson, Alabama. The date and time will be announced.
