Sue Collins

Obituary of Sue Bryan Collins

Our dear mother, Sue Bennett Collins of Pensacola, FL passed away on January 4, 2025, at the
age of 90. She was a hard-working, honest, generous, and humble southern woman fiercely
devoted to her family. She always put others first, offering support, wisdom, and unconditional
love to all.

Sue was born August 30, 1934, in Paducah, KY to George and Nettie Whaley and is survived
by her 5 children: Paula Ryder, Patricia Vlasnik (Lonnie), Bill Bennett, Rae Menard (Roger),
and Doug Bennett (Christine), ex-husband Frank Bennett, 12 Grandchildren, 19 Great-
Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Our momma’s greatest joy was being with family who affectionately called her Nana, Nana-
Boop, and Nana-Banana. She will always be remembered by her beautiful and contagious smile
and was famous for making “pancake men” for her little ones; many who have carried on her
tradition with their own kids.

Sue retired from PJC (Pensacola State College) after 30 years of working in administration
where she was blessed to work for and with many wonderful people; one in particular; her
dearest and closest friend Jean Nall whom she loved dearly and has remained especially close
with for over 55 years.

Sue was active for many years at East Brent Baptist Church prior to moving to Perdido to live
with family. She enjoyed her Sunday School class, Wednesday Night Dinners, and
lunch/outings with her church friends.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and baking – her sons and sons-in-law will always
remember her biscuits, monkey bread, and pies; along with her fried chicken and fried pork-
chops.

Momma’s spirit will forever live on in the memories we cherish and the abundant love we
shared.

A Celebration of Life will take place in the future.
