Obituary of Rickie Wilson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rickie Wilson, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected veteran, who passed away on January 13, 2025 at the age of 71.

Born on March 19, 1953, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Wilson proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 21 years, dedicating his life to the service of his country while becoming affectionately known as Rickie "The Whip" Wilson during his service.

Wilson is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Betty Wilson; three children: Rickie Wilson II and wife Christina, Kenneth Wilson and wife Jennifer, and Amanda Edgar; nine grandchildren: Rickie Wilson III, Hannah Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Charlotte Wilson, Caroline Wilson, Kenneth Wilson II, Lucille Wilson, Lillian Edgar, and Tristan Edgar; and brother, Dale Overby; along with countless friends and comrades who were fortunate enough to know him. 

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Black and Vanise Black; brother, Buford Wilson; and sister, Rita Cawood.

A memorial service will be held on March 19, 2025 at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida, where family and friends can gather to celebrate his life and honor his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lustgarten Foundation: Pancreatic Cancer Research in his memory.

Rickie Wilson, Sr., will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his service and beyond. May he rest in peace, knowing his contributions to both his country and his family will never be forgotten.
