Dorothy Janyce Ward French (Jan) our beloved Mom, GiGi, GMama, Grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her home into the arms of the Lord, June 21, 2022. A Celebration of Life was held at American House Bluewater Bay in Niceville, FL where she happily lived the last 3 of her 96 fulfilling years. Playing bridge and bingo and laughing with her many friends. She is now dancing in Heaven with our daddy, her loving husband of 60 years, John Wymond French (Jerry).
Jan was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama November 25,1925 where she received her degree from Howard College (now Sanford University) at the young age of 19 and accepted a job as Chief Dietitian at Jefferson Hillman Hospital (later known as UAB hospital) at age 21, where she worked until she married Jerry in 1954. They enjoyed boating and traveling the world together. She loved birds, flowers, fishing, watching sports, bridge, bingo, Mexican Train and her dog, Jasper. She will be remembered as an avid bridge player. She is survived by her 3 children, Janet French Gray (Terry), John Wymond French III (Bonnie) and Joni Denise Duncan (Jeff); 9 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in the name of Jan French is appreciated at Destin United Methodist Church in Destin, FL or Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church, 7620 Lanier Drive, Cumming, GA 30041.
Visitation will be held at Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church, Sunday, August 14 at 12:30, followed by a Private Family Service in the Church Garden.
