Kathleen Dominick

Obituary of Kathleen Patricia Dominick

Kathleen Dominick of Mossy Head, Florida, passed away on June 8, 2023.  She was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on December 19, 1967 to David Stevens and Kathleen Hunsberger.  A true Magnolia girl, Kathi learned the art of the cutting comeback and witty quip at Glassboro High School, from which she graduated in 1985.  She married her longtime friend Joseph Dominick on May 21st, 1990, shortly after enlisting in the United States Air Force but before starting a new life in Northwest Florida.  She began her career as an engine mechanic working on the HC-130, and later transitioned into a position as a Maintenance Operation Control Center technician.  Her commitment to duty made her vital to supporting a combat unit operating across four theatres of war: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and her knowledge mader her an effective trainer and mentor, both on the flight line and off of it.  She will be sorely missed by the base kitties.

Kathi was not known for her gentle tongue, but those closest to her never questioned her love and loyalty.  She had a soft spot for strays, human and animal, and raised more kids and kittens than her own.  A harsh start in life taught her the value of kindness, and while she may have often accompanied that kindness with a blunt word or something true that you didn't want to hear, she gave frequently and fully to others.  She had a timeless sense of style, and made a home out of any house she stayed in.  She was somehow smaller and scarier than a pitbull, and simultaneously larger than life.  She had almost zero sense of humor, which made her jokes even funnier when she made them.  She was independent, often to the point of stubborness.  She was a woman of incredible personal strength, physical and mental, so much that she made a fortress for others.

Kathy leaves behind her husband, Joseph; children, Joey, Alyssa, and Lauren; brother, Michael.  She is prececed by her mother and father, and a lifetime full of pets, but particularly her cats Aslan and Seamus, whom she has missed very much.

Cremation will take place at the family's convenience, and the ashes will be stored and later scattered.  The family will hold a private wake.  The maintenance group at Duke Field will be holding a  Celebration of Life ceremony in August.  Contact the family for details.
