Ronald Sims

Obituary of Ronald Edward Sims

Ronald Edward Sims, lovingly known as Ronnie had his last adventure on December 7, 2023, at the age of 74 in Pensacola, Florida. Born on April 16, 1949, in Mobile, Alabama, Ronnie lived a life filled with laughter, love, and a whole lot of fish tales.

Ronnie was a true sporting legend, effortlessly combining his jock prowess with a heart as soft as a teddy bear's cuddle. When he wasn't reeling in the big ones, he could be found perfecting his swing on the golf course. Whether fixing things or cheering on his favorite football, basketball, or baseball teams, Ronnie embraced every moment with his trademark charm.

From his early days at West Pensacola Elementary to his glory years at Escambia High School, Ronnie's thirst for knowledge led him to the University of Florida, where he played center position for the Florida Gators.

In the professional arena, Ronnie ruled as a store manager extraordinaire, effortlessly juggling customer service with a winning smile.

Ronnie's Sundays were dedicated to his spiritual home, the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, where he found solace.

When he wasn't busy reeling in fish or fixing odds and ends, Ronnie's hobbies included cooking, hunting, golfing, and being the MVP of family game night. He truly knew how to score big in life.

Ronnie leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his adoring wife, Johnette Shiver Sims, and his children: Heath Bookout, Jason Sims, Kimberly Sims West, and Mark Sims. He also leaves behind his nephews, Samuel Kilcrease and Ryan Minchell, as well as his grandchildren, Joshua Sims, Danielle Sims, Matthew Sims, Sara Sims, and his great-grandchild, Samuel Sims.

Ronnie's journey is preceded by his mother, Minnie Evelyn Sharron Sims, father, Elzie Austin Sims, and his beloved sisters, Cheryl and Rebecca. He now joins his nephew, Austin, in the great game of eternal life.

A celebration of Ronnie's life will take place at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Monday, December 18, 2023. The festivities will kick off with a visitation at 1pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm, officiated by Dr. Josh Morea.

Family Funeral and Cremation, located in Pensacola, Florida, is honored to assist with the arrangements.

Ronald Edward Sims, the true "Master of the Reel," will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter, his unwavering love, and his ability to hook hearts with his wit and charm. As we bid him farewell, let us celebrate the joy he brought to our lives and may his memory continue to make waves in our hearts.
